Demand for diamonds put sparkle in Petra's eye
March 16, 2006
Johannesburg - Petra Diamonds, which operates mines in South Africa, said the outlook for the diamond market is "bright" as demand outpaces production.
Annual demand for rough diamonds, or stones that have not been cut or polished, will increase to $14 billion from $11 billion in the next five years, Adonis Pouroulis, chairman of Johannesburg-based Petra, said in an interview in London on Thursday.
"There aren't enough diamonds around and we have to find new deposits," Pouroulis said. - Bloomberg
