EU price sends coal producers down

Exxaro Resources, Wescoal Holdings and other local coal producers fell in Johannesburg trading yesterday after the price of the fuel dropped in Europe on Wednesday.

Exxaro lost as much as 8.96 percent to R122, the most in more than three months, valuing the company at about R43 billion.


Wescoal plunged a record 15 percent to R1.95 but recovered to close at R2.10, down 8.7 percent on the day.

Coal for delivery to Amsterdam, Rotterdam or Antwerp with settlement next year dropped 13 percent to $190 (R1 483) per ton in London yesterday. - Bloomberg
